CELLAR
The Lowenstein family has been producing wines in the region since 1520. The Heiman-Lowenstein winery was founded in 1980 by Reinard Lowenstein and his wife Cornelia Heymann. 98% of their production is Riesling, and all 13 hectares are planted on very steep terraced slopes. The soil is composed of 7 different types of shale, formed 400 million years ago, in the collision of the two continental plates. The property has been a member of the German wine association VDP since 1997 and has a Fair & Green certificate. Heymann-Löwenstein is considered to be the first truly high-end manufacturer in the lower part of the Moselle.
VINEYARDS
The majority of the winery's production is Riesling (98%), all from the winery's own vineyards. The variety of vineyards begins with the so-called "Schieferterrassen" (which consists of difficult to maintain and operate steep terraces composed of shale, as opposed to the flat terrain of the river) to the prestigious steep Uhlen (divided into two types of soil: Roth Lay = iron-rich red shale and Laubach = calcareous gray shale). Nature proves its power and strength by producing amazing wines from its stony soils - difficult to grow but producing masterpieces.
