Donnhoff Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Felsenturmchen GG
TASTING NOTES
The Schlossböckelheimer Felsenberg is a very old and famous location. The vines grow here in southern exposure under extreme conditions on pure volcanic porphyry weathering soil. This stony, slightly heatable soil brings very characterful Rieslings with racy fruit and mineral acid, which enjoy a great reputation worldwide for their special flint note.
THE WINERY
Dönnhoff is located in the Nahe region of the Rhineland and is considered one of the best German producers. They are known for the high quality of their wines, which are produced mainly from the Riesling variety. Dönnhoff is one of three German wineries to receive a 100-point score from Robert Parker for the harvests 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2010 for the Riesling Eiswein wine. The winery is located in Oberhausen in the heart of Nahe.
VINEYARDS
The Dönnhoff family has been making wine in this area since the 1950s. Helmut Donhoff took the lead in 1971, when the winery had only 4 hectares of plantings. Since then, step by step the property has developed and reached its current size, while at the same time growing in popularity. The vineyards consist of about 20 hectares of vineyards, 80% of which are Riesling, planted on rocky, volcanic soils, which gives the wines a balanced acidity and intensive mineralization. About 10,000 crates are produced each year, depending on the harvest.
