Felton Road MacMuir Pinot Noir
TASTING NOTES
Dark fruit and cocoa lead this saturating bouquet. The palate is similarly intense, but it nevertheless has the openness and immediate silky appeal. Sandalwood, dark chocolate and cranberry lingers on a sustained and immensely impressive finish.
Aging: 13 months in 25% new French oak barrels from artisan Burgundian coopers.
WINERY
The Felton Road winery in Central Otago, New Zealand was purchased by Nigel Greenzing in 2000 and has been practicing organic and biodynamic winemaking ever since. Felton Road wines are produced in the southernmost wine region in the world.
VINEYARDS
Here, the vineyards are nestled in small macroclimates completely surrounded by high mountains, many of which are covered in snow all year round. Although the location is on the edge of sustainable viticulture, these macroclimates combine hot days, cool nights and long dry autumns: ideal for the creation of top-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The latitude is similar to Oregon's Willamette Valley and some of France's best wine regions.
