THE WINERY
Chilean entrepreneur Aurelio Montes and his three
friends Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand managed to put Chile
in the map of quality wine. The
results come sooner than expected: the first ultra-premium Chilean wine Montes
Alpha was released in 1998, followed by Montes Folly in 2001 and Purple Angel
in 2005. All of them had instant success and made it an insignia in the world
of wine.
VINEYARDS
The grapes for Montes
Alpha M grow in the Apalta Zone of Colchagua valley. Apalta is diverse, with some zones that are
highly infuenced by the Tinguiririca River and others influenced by floods and
material fallen from the
mountains. The soil tends to be deeper on the plain and shallower at the foot
of the mountains and higher up areas. The Cabernet
Sauvignon for this wine is grown mainly in higher areas below 30 degrees slope.
The wines are concentrated, with good structure, intense color and excellent
cellaring potential.
VINIFICATION
The grapes are hand
picked. The harvest takes place early in the morning to keep the grapes as cool
as possible until they reach the cellar, where the bunches are carefully
selected before destemming.
